Join tribal leaders, Governor Jay Inslee, and state agency leaders at the 2024 Washington State Tribal Opioid Fentanyl Summit to discuss the impact of the opioid crisis on native communities across the state and identify action items and solutions. This year's summit will be held July 23-25, at the Davenport Grand Hotel in Spokane, WA. 

The National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) has announced a new funding opportunity for public health data modernization. This is a multi-year award, with a maximum funding amount of $23,000,000. In addition to this award, national partners plan to subaward approximately $23 million to participating tribal public health authorities to support their implementation activities. The estimated period of performance is from 9/1/2024 to 9/30/2027. 

The third tribal wellness and resiliency gathering will be held on May 28-30, 2024, at the Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort. 

This gathering will focus on a strengths-based approach to prevention and will strive to emphasize protective factors inherent in native cultural traditions and practices to address risk factors that adversely impact native people.

The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) is pleased to announce submissions are now open to select the state’s tribal or urban native community for the Health Equity Zones Initiative. Tribal and urban native communities from across Washington are encouraged to apply during the open submission process now through Wednesday, May 22. 

The Region 10 Opioid Summit will be held in a hybrid format on July 25-26, 2024, with an in-person attendance option in Boise, ID.

This year's theme and title is "Breaking barriers, saving lives: Empowering individuals, strengthening families, healing communities, and embracing recovery." At least a quarter of this year's programming workshops will be dedicated to cultural and tribal-based services reaching American Indian/Alaska Native communities.

In 2023, Washington State Arts Commission (ArtsWA) received funding to support tribal communities’ arts and culture. This funding may be used for arts and/or cultural-related activities. Examples include, but are not limited to: 

The Healthy Youth Survey Planning Committee (HYSPC) is now collecting proposals for new and revised questions to include in the 2025 Healthy Youth Survey (HYS). If you would like to submit a proposal for a new question to be added to the survey, or you would like to propose a revision to an existing question or question scale, please complete and submit this form no later than Friday, April 12, 2024.

Tribal leaders and their representatives are invited to participate in a series of four listening sessions to provide guidance and proposals for the 2025 Washington State Healthy Youth Survey (HYS). The HYS survey focuses on health risk and protective factors and offers rich information about how youth are doing in their own voices.

The Health Care Authority's Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR) is hosting its next learning community meeting (LCM) for DBHR prevention and promotion contractors on Wednesday, January 24, 9:05 a.m. to noon. The meeting will include updates about the prevention budget and legislative session, including bills to watch, and more! 

The National Indian Health Board (NIHB) invites tribal leaders, health and public health professionals, policy specialists, and advocates to submit workshop proposals for the National Tribal Health Conference (NTHC) on May 19-23, 2024, in Rapid City, South Dakota. 

This year's conference theme is "Tribal Health Equity on Our Terms," and will focus on health promotion and disease prevention; behavioral health; public health policy, infrastructure, and systems; advocacy; and strong health care systems.
