About us

The Athena Forum is a central hub for Washington's prevention and wellness information

Since 2008, the Athena Forum has served as Washington’s online information center for news and resources that support substance use disorder prevention and mental health promotion. Coordinated by the Washington State Health Care Authority’s Division of Behavioral Health & Recovery (DBHR), Athena connects contractors, prevention providers, and partners with tools and knowledge for coordinating prevention efforts across the state.

Athena is the Greek goddess of wisdom, strategy, and handicraft. She's associated with practical insight, ingenuity, tactics and discipline, as well as creation (spinning, weaving, pottery). Her name was chosen to represent our Forum as these themes resonate with the work we uplift in Washington. Athena is often depicted as accompanied by an owl companion. Representing knowledge and wisdom, the owl was selected for the Athena Forum logo.
