What: You are invited to an exciting professional development opportunity for prevention coordinators in Washington State, the Creating Environmental Change: A Prevention Policy Cohort. This virtual multipart training plus learning community series is hosted by SAMHSA’s HHS Region 9 & 10 Strategic Prevention and Technical Assistance Center (SPTAC) Team.

When: The Creating Environmental Change training plus learning community will be held virtually on Zoom over seven consecutive weeks: Fridays -July 31, August 7, August 14, August 21, August 28, September 4, and September 11.

Training sessions are on July 31, August 14, August 28, and September 11, for 90-minutes from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Pacific and will be and will run. Learning community sessions are on August 7, August 21, and September 4, for 60-minutes 10:00-11:00 a.m. Pacific.

Audience: This training is open for Washington residents, as this is specific to the Washington coalition model. Prevention Coalition Coordinators and Community-Based Organization (CBO) staff are the priority audience for the series.
There is no charge for attending this series. Training size is limited to 30 participants.

Format, expectations, and certificates:
Training sessions: we recommend participants attend all four training sessions as the information builds upon the previous session’s content. A continuing education certificate for up to 6 hours will be sent to attendees from SPTAC when the series is completed.

Learning community sessions will be held in between training sessions, on August 7, August 21, and September 4; these are optional and are designed for more personalized technical assistance and dialogue among the trainer and participants. No certificate of attendance will be provided.

Presenter:
Rick Collins, MS, CPS
Rick Collins is a Cincinnati, OH native who has resided in Hawai‘i since 2003. He specializes in public health policy on alcohol and other drugs. He is the co-founder of the Hawai‘i Alcohol Policy Alliance and the Maui Coalition for Drug-Free Youth, and he currently serves as Coalition Director for three community coalitions across Hawai‘i. His experience includes building new community coalitions and community organizing to plan and implement policy strategies to reduce the harms of substance use. He currently serves as a board member for the US Alcohol Policy Alliance and the Juvenile Justice State Advisory Council of Hawai‘i. He is a Certified Prevention Specialist and holds an MS in Counseling Psychology from Chaminade University.

Alicia Hughes is a Certified Prevention Professional (CPP) and has over a decade of experience leading state prevention workforce systems, managing federal and state prevention grants, and contributing to statewide and local strategic planning. Alicia is the Senior Training/Technical Assistance Specialist with both the Strategic Prevention Technical Assistance Center (SPTAC) and Northwest Prevention Technology Transfer Center (NW PTTC), supporting Regions 9 and 10 to build organizational capacity of SAMHSA prevention grantees. She specializes in the development and delivery of trainings to advance prevention core competencies, coalition implementation and success, and grants management.
