Research study seeks parents looking to help their teens quit vaping
Researchers at the University of Nebraska Medical Center are enrolling teens aged 15 to 18 who currently use e-cigarettes (vaped on one or more days in the past 30 days), along with one of their parents/guardians, for a new study on youth vaping cessation. The goal is to test whether a new program can help teens quit vaping with support from their parent/guardian. Both the teen and parent/guardian will participate in the study, but their involvement will be separated.
You may be able to participate in this study as a parent/guardian and teen pair if:
- Both the parent/guardian and the teen are willing to take part together
- The teen is 15-18 years old and currently vapes or has vaped in the past 30 days
- You have access to a computer or mobile phone at home
- The parent/guardian is interested in helping their teen quit vaping, and the teen is interested in quitting and wants support from a parents/guardian
The study involves random placement into one of two study groups:
- Group 1: The parent or guardian will complete one on one meetings with a coach every other week over Zoom for three months, and the parent/guardian and teen will complete online lessons and surveys
- Group 2: The parent/guardian and teen will complete surveys
