Prevention Workforce Assessment published by NASADAD

The National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Agency Directors (NASADAD) has published a national prevention workforce assessment for public access. Access the results on the SAMHSA website. 

The nation’s substance use prevention workforce faces a number of challenges, including the lack of a consistent pipeline of trained professionals. Yet, until now, national data on the size, composition, and characteristics of the substance use prevention workforce has been limited. No systematic national assessment of the workforce had been conducted to inform workforce development activities. Recognizing this gap, Congress directed the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to assess the national characteristics and needs of the substance use prevention workforce.

Over the past few years, NASADAD, on behalf of SAMHSA, conducted the first ever national needs assessment of the substance use prevention workforce and developed a report on the findings.

The report provides valuable information to guide future workforce activities for the substance use prevention workforce. More resources related to the report will be released at a future date.
