Schools Counselors as connectors: strengthening prevention partnerships through LifeSkills Training
The consequences of a young person’s drug and alcohol use may be serious and far-reaching, forecasting problematic use or addictive behaviors into adulthood. School counselors play an essential part in substance misuse prevention in their roles as leaders, advocates, and mentors for students and teachers. Research supports the importance of building partnerships with school personnel, health professionals, and community agencies to promote desirable and sustainable change for students.
Join us to explore how school counselors are uniquely equipped to collaborate with school and community stakeholders to support and reinforce prevention programs. We will provide a rationale for why and how school counselors are integral to the successful adoption and implementation of Botvin LifeSkills Training (LST) in schools by embodying the ASCA National Model themes of leadership, advocacy, collaboration, and systemic change. We will also share how the skills taught in LST align with the ASCA National Model Mindsets and Behaviors for student success.
