Education and Outreach Tips & Lessons Learned

Highlighting coalition work is an important step in gaining recognition for the difference you are making. We'd like to encourage coalitions to connect with one another and share their experiences around outreach and education efforts, and sharing educational prevention messages and/or local data with decision-makers.

  • What tips do you have to share with other coalitions?
  • Are there any key lessons or highlights you've learned?
  • What are some success stories?

Feel free to use this discussion board as an idea-generation space to capture education and outreach efforts that have proven useful.

Since she didn't do it herself, I'll add that one coalition coordinator I support got invited to serve on her county Public Health Advisory Board, representing prevention, family supports, and positive youth development. Previous board members were mostly doctors and healthcare officials, so her perspective has been a valuable addition to their decision making process, and it's let to more opportunities to participate in public education and outreach. Chances are your local board doesn't have a prevention person either, so it could be worth asking if there's a vacancy.
