Webinar: School-based screening, brief intervention and referral to (SBIRT) services/treatment

Schools have historically struggled to implement effective school-wide public health-oriented strategies to identify early signs of emerging behavioral health difficulties - like depression, suicidality, anxiety and substance use - and to proactively engage students, caregivers and community and school-based counselors teams in a coordinated response.  Early signs of these behavioral health difficulties often emerge, and are missed, in middle school.  An innovative new adaption of School Based Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) that is tailored specifically for the middle school environment, engages caregivers and school-based behavioral health teams.  Pairing this engaging new screening and triage technology developed by King County and the University of Washington with a set of developmentally appropriate and motivational brief intervention elements. This adapted, effective and research supported SBIRT model designed by Reclaiming Futures is showing promise in helping identify and respond to emerging behavioral health issues before it reaches a point of crisis.  This presentation will cover the implementation lessons and evaluation findings of the SB:SBIRT Project from 2018 -2020 serving over 10,000 students. Implications for work done on college campuses will be discussed.
