UW YARD Study: Call for Participants

What is the Young Adult Riding and Driving (YARD) Study?

The YARD Study is an ongoing research study about young adults’ transportation habits and health behaviors. We are housed at the Center for the Study of Health and Risk Behaviors (CSHRB) at the University of Washington.

Young adults ages 18 to 25 who live in Washington state may be eligible. You do not have to be a university student to participate.

Participants can earn up to $281 in electronic gift cards (either Amazon, Target, or Walmart gift cards) throughout the course of the study.

To participate in the study, fill out the quick contact form on the website: sites.uw.edu/uwyard/. You will then be called by a member of our team to ensure your eligibility.

What do participants do?

       1. Complete a quick contact form.

       2. You will then be contacted by a researcher to confirm your contact information and interest in the study.

       3. Afterwards, you will be sent a screening survey.

  •        This is a confidential 10-minute online survey to see if the study is right for you. This survey includes questions about your personal characteristics (age, gender, etc.), and some transportation and health behaviors. Upon completion, you will be sent a $5 Amazon gift card (later in the study, you’ll be able to choose between Amazon, Target or Walmart gift cards).

       4. If eligible, you will be invited to complete the next portion of the study.

  •        Study participants will be asked to complete 3-5 minute surveys on Thursdays-Sundays every other week for 6 months.
  •        Participants will receive $3 / survey, and a $5 bonus each week they complete all surveys for that week.
