Training on implementing youth leadership groups starts December 13

YOUTH PARTICIPATORY ACTION RESEARCH (YPAR) PROGRAM TRAINING & COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE:

Interested in learning how to implement participatory action research with youth in your community? We invite you to join us for this upcoming YPAR training series! Those who participate in the training will gain access to:

  • A FREE digital copy of the 4-H YPAR curriculum to use in your communities
  • 4 training sessions on YPAR with guidance of experienced implementers at Washington State University (WSU)
  • 6 monthly Learning Community meetings where you will be supported by the WSU team and others implementing YPAR
  • The opportunity to participate in a youth evaluation survey to better understand how participating in YPAR impacts youth psychological empowerment and opioid health knowledge  
  • A free report on your youth group’s evaluation data

This opportunity is available for all DBHR grantees with teen leadership groups and those interested in starting teen leadership groups in the future. Description: Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) is a process designed to engage teens ages 14-18 as a researcher to learn about and address a health issue in their community. In this session, Elizabeth Weybright, PhD will provide an overview of participatory action research and the benefits of using this approach with youth. You’ll also hear from faculty and staff at Washington State University who will discuss their experiences with YPAR and highlight youth-led community action projects focused on opioid misuse prevention implemented because of YPAR.
