Would you like to see more mental health patients connected to services in the community and earn $15,000 at the same time?

Do you serve adult Medicaid patients in a mental health inpatient facility?

The Washington State Department of Health along with all five Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) in Washington have partnered to develop a Provider Resource Guide (PRG) designed to improve access to and timeliness of mental health treatment following an inpatient discharge. We are seeking several mental health inpatient facilities to partner in the final step before the PRG is released. Participation will contribute to the development of a Provider Resource Guide that is useful and valuable for discharge teams across Washington. Payment for partnership is $15,000.

With our goal of connecting/reconnecting patients to outpatient mental health services, we hope to engage three to four discharge teams to read, utilize, and provide practical insights and recommendations to improve the draft PRG. We would like to explore where in the discharge process the Medicaid MCOs can assist the discharging facilities to provide support to the Medicaid population in completing the behavioral health follow-up visit within seven days.

With these efforts, we anticipate this project will strengthen the relationship between the MCOs and participating organizations and to enhance the overall experience for the patients with mental healthcare transitions.

The project is expected to take two months including completion of a pre-assessment, a few meetings with MCO and DOH staff, and a post-assessment. Projects will start 4-6 weeks after organizations are selected to allow time for contracting.

Requirements

  • Mental health inpatient facility providing care for Medicaid patients for ages 18-65 years requiring discharge
  • Ability to trial support mechanisms from the resource guide in coordination with the MCOs.
  • Ability to complete a pre- and post-survey
  • Ability to dedicate allocated time and effort required to complete agreed upon deliverables and scheduled meetings (time varies by organization and depending upon process changes tested/implemented)

If your organization serves Medicaid patients ages 18-64 insured by more than one (1) of the five (5) Medicaid MCOs and you are interested, let us know by email to ohis-ptqi@doh.wa.gov . Be sure to include your name, organization, the MCOs you work with, and your contact information. We will follow up with you within a couple of days with more details about the Provider Resource Guide Project. We will be accepting applications for two weeks from the initial publication.
