Prevention spotlight: MyTOWN Coalition
Earlier this year, Hoquiam's MyTOWN CPWI coalition was awarded additional funding to support prevention efforts that reach the Spanish-speaking population.
The funds were requested to support translation services provided by one of the coalition's organizational partners, Circulo de Mujeres Para la Justicia (Women's Justice Circle). After being awarded the funding, coalition coordinator Priya Lindeen, learned that the coalition's fiscal agent, Grays Harbor County, has a translation services contractor that was able to provide these services at a cost significantly less than originally anticipated. Dedicated to maximizing these funds for Hoquiam's Spanish-speaking population, Priya began exploring alternative ways to use the remaining funding.
After exploring several options, Priya proposed and advocated using the remaining funding to support sending two Circulo de Mujeres Para la Justicia members to the Rural Prevention Conference and the 2024 Washington State Prevention Summit. This solution not only supports prevention services for Hoquiam's Spanish-speaking population but empowers members of that community to lead local prevention efforts!
HCA's DBHR would like to recognize Priya Lindeen for her creativity, resourcefulness, and exemplary commitment to expanding prevention services in Hoquiam, WA.
