A fresh perspective on what truly drives health in our communities

Whether you live in a small town or a big city, our communities help shape our health in powerful ways. It’s not just about going to a doctor. Having grocery stores close to home, places to exercise and play, or a way to get to work all play a part in our ability to live a healthy life.

Understanding What Makes Us Healthy, developed by CADCA and the University of Florida’s Center for Public Interest Communications, introduces practical ideas about what impacts our health in clear, everyday language.

In this engaging, interactive workshop, you’ll:

  • Learn what it really means for a community to be healthy
  • Discover how our surroundings affect people’s ability to stay healthy
  • Understand which strategies that have the greatest impact and concrete examples of how they’ve been applied

Participants will leave with a clear understanding of what really shapes health in their communities and how to recognize approaches that make a meaningful difference. Understanding What Makes Us Healthy equips states and local coalitions with foundational knowledge and actionable insights that support smarter, more effective community health efforts.
