Webinar: Targeted self-care for uniquely stressful times

Webinar: Targeted self-care for uniquely stressful times

Being an essential worker during the COVID-19 pandemic can feel overwhelming and stressful for a myriad of reasons. Helping professionals report increased and unique work demands, struggling to take care of oneself and others during work hours, loss of social outlets, and loss of the ability to connect with others. Additional stressors may include a fear or dread of oncoming illness and the potential loss of friends and loved ones. More of us are experiencing anxiety, fear, anger, sadness, and helplessness each day. Self-care is essential to maintain your physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual health. The PEMSS model is a holistic approach that focuses on five areas (Physical, Emotional, Mental, Social and Spiritual) and the proper implementation of direct self-care in these areas. Using this model will eradicate the challenge of identifying effective self-care behaviors so that one can maintain personal and professional well-being in the face of uniquely stressful times.

Webinar: Messaging hope when dispair seems normal

Webinar: Messaging hope when dispair seems normal

How do we apply the Science of the Positive in times of uncertainty? What does positive messaging look like during a global pandemic? Can we apply Positive Community Norms to messaging about COVID19? How can we continue messaging about anything else?

This team-led series of five virtual workshops will address these questions and show how the Science of the Positive can be a touchstone and a guide for public health practitioners during difficult and confusing times. No previous experience is necessary, but we recommend that newcomers also register for the Introduction to Positive Community Norms.

We are often called upon to message during difficult times, such as in the aftermath of a drug-related student death or a natural disaster. How can the principles of the Science of the Positive and Positive Community norms help us now? How can we effectively engage with positivity and hope in our work and messaging?

Webinar: High stakes: Fostering innovation to stem the tide of america’s drug problems

COVID-19 moved substance use issues and drug overdose deaths from front-page headlines, but emerging evidence suggests America's drug problems have intensified since the pandemic started. RAND research shows that limiting policy responses to traditional methods for addressing drug problems will be insufficient and condemn many more people to early deaths.

In this RAND Remote presentation, Beau Kilmer will discuss how RAND is identifying and evaluating innovative approaches to tackle some of our most pressing drug problems and help strengthen and safeguard communities. Ideas he will talk about range from using sewage water as an early warning system for drug outbreaks to revoking someone's "license to drink."
