Back to school resources

As youth return to school, check out these resources to help them have their best year yet!

  • After High School: Talking with Your Young Adult about Underage Drinking: This fact sheet from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) provides strategies and tips to help parents and caregivers talk with young adults about the risks of underage drinking.
  • Selfies, Social, and Screens: Navigating Virtual Spaces for Youth: Mental Health America's 2023 back to school toolkit is available online for download. This year's toolkit provides information, tips, and resources for young people, caregivers, and school personnel on how to protect youth mental health (and increase or maintain protective factors!) in a digital world.
  • Talking with Your College-Bound Young Adult About Alcohol: SAMHSA developed this parent guide to inform parents about the risks of underage drinking and empower them to share and discuss these risks with college-bound young adults.
  • Wellness journal: Brought to you by the Addictions, Drug & Alcohol Institute (ADAI), this 27-page journal for youth provides prompts and activities teens can use to express themselves through writing and creativity as a tool to process their emotions – a great protective factor against substance use.
