The prevention of gun violence is a topic of current interest and debate in the U.S. and in Washington state. Research suggests that substance abuse and mental illness may be contributing factors in some gun violence. The Alcohol & Drug Abuse Institute Library prepared an Info Brief listing resources that address the intersection of alcohol/drug use and mental health, and the use of firearms.
