THRIVE mental health resources

Reaching out InVolves Everyone (THRIVE) is Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board's (NPAIHB) suicide prevention project. 

THRIVE works to reduce suicide rates among indigenous people living in the Northwest by providing culturally relevant mental health resources to increase knowledge and awareness about suicide and expand access to prevention and treatment services.

Native prevention fellow project presentations

The Native Center for Behavioral Health hosts a prevention fellowship program, a one-year career development and practicum for early-career professionals or students in the substance use prevention field. 

On Thursday, November 30, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., this year's three fellows will present the projects they have worked on during their fellowship year: 

Fentanyl discussed at annual Centennial Accord meetings

Last month, the Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation hosted the annual Centennial Accord meetings, a formal collaboration between the 29 federally recognized tribes in Washington and the state government. Hundreds of Tribal leaders from Washington, Idaho, and Oregon attended and participated in the meetings.

Native American Heritage Month

Native American Heritage Month is observed each November to honor the rich and diverse cultures and heritage of Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and affiliated Island communities. It is a time to celebrate the traditions, languages, and stories of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) people and ensure their histories and contributions are, and continue to be, remembered and recognized. 

Free Naloxone distribution to tribes

As part of the opioid litigation settlement with Teva Pharmaceuticals, tribes are eligible to receive free boxes of Naloxone, the opioid overdose emergency treatment medication.

Each tribe is entitled to a specific share of Naloxone in the form of units annually for 10 years. View the spreadsheet detailing each tribe's allocation. 

Conference scholarship application available

In an effort to support workforce development, DBHR has identified funding to provide financial support for prevention partners to attend specified conferences on a range of prevention-related topics. Scholarship applications are open to all interested individuals. 

Requests will be reviewed with your prevention manager (if applicable) for alignment with other trainings and activities in your approved budgets. Please note, scholarships cover the cost of conference registration only.

AI/AN prevention ethics training opportunity

"Ethics in prevention: A guide for American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) substance use disorder prevention professionals and individuals working primarily with AI/AN communities" will be offered after the close of the 2023 Prevention Summit, on Thursday, October 26, at the Davenport Grand Hotel in Spokane, WA. The training will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

New Minerva 2.0 Biennial Data Refresh Trainings: CBO and Tribal/UIO

We are happy to offer two new Minerva 2.0 Biennial Data Refresh Trainings. These hybrid sessions will be offered on Zoom and in-person at the Washington Health Care Authority office, 626 8th Avenue SE, Olympia, WA 98504 in the Pear conference room.

During the training, we will discuss prevention data entry best practices. The goals are to ease data entry and to improve data quality.

Minerva 2.0 biennial data refresh update for tribes and UIOs

We are happy to announce the launch of the Minerva 2.0 biennial data refresh training.

Who should attend? Tribal and Urban Indian Organization (UIO) prevention and support staff responsible for prevention data entry in Minerva.

During this training, we will discuss prevention data entry best practices for the goal to improve ease of data entry and data that is reported to federal and state funders.
