Native American Heritage Month

Native American Heritage Month is observed each November to honor the rich and diverse cultures and heritage of Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and affiliated Island communities. It is a time to celebrate the traditions, languages, and stories of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) people and ensure their histories and contributions are, and continue to be, remembered and recognized.

Free Naloxone distribution to tribes

As part of the opioid litigation settlement with Teva Pharmaceuticals, tribes are eligible to receive free boxes of Naloxone, the opioid overdose emergency treatment medication.

Each tribe is entitled to a specific share of Naloxone in the form of units annually for 10 years. View the spreadsheet detailing each tribe's allocation.

Conference scholarship application available

In an effort to support workforce development, DBHR has identified funding to provide financial support for prevention partners to attend specified conferences on a range of prevention-related topics. Scholarship applications are open to all interested individuals.

Requests will be reviewed with your prevention manager (if applicable) for alignment with other trainings and activities in your approved budgets. Please note, scholarships cover the cost of conference registration only.

AI/AN prevention ethics training opportunity

"Ethics in prevention: A guide for American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) substance use disorder prevention professionals and individuals working primarily with AI/AN communities" will be offered after the close of the 2023 Prevention Summit, on Thursday, October 26, at the Davenport Grand Hotel in Spokane, WA. The training will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
