Social Emotional Learning Advisory Committee

Let your voice beheard!

The Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Advisory Committee and the Educational Opportunity Gap Oversight and Accountability Committee (EOGOAC) will be jointly hosting a virtual family and community forum on Thursday, November 4th from 5pm-7pm to discuss Social Emotional Learning.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is broadly understood as a process through which individuals build awareness and skills in managing emotions, setting goals, establishing relationships, and making responsible decisions that support success in school and in life. At its core, SEL is about supporting social emotional wellbeing and ensuring every young person feels a deep sense of belonging in their school and community. In this uniquely challenging moment, it is critical that we come together to listen, learn and better understand the impacts of the last year on the social and emotional health of children of color. We are inviting students, families and communities to share with us how our schools should work with families and communities of color to create equitable opportunities for positive social emotional learning (SEL).

Topics of discussion will include:

  • Student belonging
  • Culturally responsive SEL
  • Co-Designing SEL with families
  • Preparing the educator workforce for SEL

Space will be limited, so please pre-register. Priority will be given to students, families and community members. Spanish and ASL interpretation will be provided. If you need accommodations or language interpretation, please indicate on your registration.
