Contingency Management Impact: Lived experience and rural practice

Contingency Management (CM) is an evidence-based behavioral intervention that uses positive reinforcement to support people in achieving their goals. This webinar will provide a description of CM as it has been applied across Washington State to address stimulant use, followed by a discussion of implementation considerations unique to rural areas. The session will feature a person with lived experience participating in CM, highlighting the impact CM has had on his recovery journey.

Learning Objectives:
Define Contingency Management and how it can be used to address stimulant use.
Describe CM implementation considerations as they apply to rural areas.
Examine the impact of CM as shared by a person with lived experience.

Speakers:
James Olsen is a person in recovery. He currently works at Spokane Addiction Recovery Centers as a Residential Treatment Assistant. He understands pain. He knows what the struggle is like and he knows recovery is possible.

K. Michelle Peavy is a Scholarly Associate Professor in the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine at Washington State University, Co-Director of the NW Rural Opioid Technical Assistance Collaborative, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, and Substance Use Disorder Professional. One focus of her work is leading training and technical assistance efforts to support the implementation of Contingency Management.
