Program or Strategy Description

Parenting Wisely is a parenting skills education system designed to support parents of children and teens ages 3-18. It consists of training programs that reduce youth problem behaviors and improve family communication and relationships. Parenting Wisely has multiple age specific versions including programs for young children (ages 3-10) and teens (11-18). Programs are available in a self-paced online format or can be delivered with a facilitator in group or one-on-one settings. The interactive training models present video reenactments of typic family conflicts such as school issues or behavioral challenges and allow parents to select from different response options each portraying varying levels of effectiveness. These scenarios are followed by interactive Q&A sessions and quizzes to reinforce key parenting concepts. Each session consists of nine sessions which can be completed in 2-3 hours. The facilitator led option allows the program to be delivered in a group or individual sessions by a trained professional providing guided discussion, additional support and opportunities for parents to practice and reinforce skills in a structured setting.
