The evaluation and management of eating disorders in adolescents

-

This session will explore key aspects of diagnosing and managing eating disorders in adolescents and young adults, a population that presents unique challenges for healthcare providers. The presentation will cover diagnostic criteria for various types of eating disorders, including differential diagnoses. Special attention will be given to how personal identities and biases can impact clinical assessments. The presentation will also address the psychiatric and physical manifestations of malnutrition, exploring how these can vary and complicate diagnosis and treatment.

Throughout the session, evidence-based practices will be emphasized, particularly the importance of early detection and an interdisciplinary approach to treatment, and interactive case-based quizzes will again be used to facilitate active learning and discussion. The goal is to equip participants with updated knowledge and skills to better identify, manage, and treat eating disorders in this vulnerable population, improving both diagnosis and outcomes.
