Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

Youth Mental Health First Aid offers first aid skills to help caring, trusted adults in supporting youth showing signs and/or symptoms of mental health disorders.

Objectives of the Session:

  • Recognize early warning signs that a youth is developing a mental health or substance use challenge.
  • Recognize warning signs that a youth may be experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis.
  • Apply the YMHFA Action Plan to help a youth with a mental health or substance use challenge or crisis.

Presenter Bio:

Emily Nelson, SUDP, M.Ed is a licensed Substance Use Disorder Professional and holds a Master's in Education in School Counseling. She previously held a WSCGC-I credential, primarily working with clients involved with therapeutic court programs. Emily has worked in the behavioral health field for nearly 15 years and currently serves as the Student Support Director at ESD 105, serving school districts throughout south central Washington.

Emily Contreras, MSW, is the Mental Health Coordinator at ESD 105. She is one of nine Behavioral Health Navigators that works to increase equitable access to behavioral healthcare and services for students in need through state and regional cross-system collaboration with schools and communities.
