Webinar: Walking alongside: Strategies to support parenting in recovery

This webinar invites a new approach to the practice of focusing on recovery before parenting. Healthy and safe parenting within the context of a supportive community is a means of achieving and sustaining recovery. Participants will hear from a mom who will share how motherhood was a catalyst to her recovery. The presenters will describe strategies that substance use treatment and recovery services can adopt to simultaneously increase both recovery and parenting capital through individual and group approaches. The webinar will also address the benefits and how-tos of developing and sustaining a peer recovery workforce cross-trained in parenting support, along with the introduction of a specialized toolkit.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to describe the benefits of supporting parenting as part of the recovery process.
  • Participants will be able to incorporate collaborative, trauma-informed practices to increase recovery success among pregnant and parenting people.
  • Participants will be able to identify competencies and training resources to provide effective perinatal and parenting peer support.
