Webinar: How to create LGBTQ+ safe spaces

The Safe Zone Workshop is designed to help people at all levels of an organization create a more inclusive space with a particular emphasis on the LGBTQ+ community. Based in the work of the Safe Zone Project, this training will help participants explore their first impressions, expand their LGBTQ+ vocabulary, dive into concepts around sexuality and gender, examine privilege, and practice applying their new knowledge/skills to real-world situations.

While focused on the LGBTQ+ community, this workshop helps to develop and strengthen broader skills that are pivotal to creating inclusive environments.

Presenters will be Kevin Shah (he/him) and Ryan Driscoll (he/him). Shah is an experienced product and business leader who has spent more 13 years in technological solutions. Ryan is the developer of an app that boosts a person’s empathy. He has led several LGBTQ+ safe space trainings for companies and was honored with Puget Sound Business Journal’s 2020 Outstanding Voices recognition. He lives at the intersection of being a cis-gender, gay, brown, immigrant, millennial, tech leader, and startup CEO/Co-founder.

Ryan has spent over 10 years working in formal and informal science education with a focus on environmental justice and helping people connect to the natural world. This has included an emphasis on empathy and how it can be a tool to connect people to nature and each other. Ryan has a passion for helping others develop their own skills and talents while working to dismantle inequitable systems. His most recent work has focused around co-creating community conservation programs and an equitable conservation movement.
