Webinar: COVID-19 and alcohol use disorder in diverse communities

ORO Region 10 will host the first in a three-part webinar series on the impacts of COVID-19 on Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) in Diverse Communities. This webinar will increase awareness of not only HRSA resources for behavioral health, but also state and local resources to prevent and treat AUD. We will provide an overview of the system of delivery in a state or locality, and will explore AUD within the context of COVID-19. Subject Matter Experts will also discuss intervention and prevention efforts that prioritize health communication strategies.

Webinar Panel:

Tiffany Hall is the Executive director of Recover Alaska, a multi-sector action group that pursues a solutions-focused effort to recover, reclaim, and restore the strengths of Alaska’s families and communities by getting to the root causes of excessive alcohol consumption. In her role, Ms. Hall partners with organizations and individuals dedicated to reducing the harm associated with alcohol misuse and connecting individuals to treatment/information. She works to raise awareness of the negative impacts of excessive alcohol consumption and advocate for legislation and policies that will help reduce alcohol misuse. Ms. Hall also works to reduce the stigma associated with alcohol misuse through positive messaging and programs.

Dr. Oladunni Oluwoye is an Assistant Professor, Department of Medical Education and Clinical Sciences & Co-Director of the Washington State Center for Excellence in Early Psychosis at Washington State University. Her research is focused on increasing racial health equity in addiction and mental health treatment, with an emphasis on improving access to treatment and treatment delivery in community-based settings. Dr. Oluwoye’s work emphasizes the use cultural sensitive tools and developing and evaluating implementation strategies. She is a certified health education specialist and has extensive experience in the prevention of substance use among racial and ethnic minorities, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, mixed-methodology, and program development and evaluation.

• Increase awareness of AUD prevention and treatment strategies and promising practices within diverse communities

• Share experiences and expertise regarding AUD within diverse groups through a facilitated discussion
