ASCOT is 6-day training currently delivered remotely that is facilitated by a team of regional leaders who hold decades of experience in community engagement, policy development, prevention, leadership development and community change. ASCOT is an approved course by the Prevention Specialist Certification Board of Washington which allows participants who fully complete the course to earn 32 prevention credit hours. The ASCOT curriculum showcases: 4 cross-cutting themes, 6 tool boxes, a number of case studies, and violence and substance use disorder prevention strategies and best practices that are culturally responsive and equity-centered. The first 2022 ASCOT training series is spread out across six (6) weeks. From 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM, daily via Zoom platform.

Priority will be given to practitioners who are available and committed to attending all six (6) of the scheduled sessions and participating as an active member of their assigned Learning Coalition. Recertification training is for facilitators who have been trained and certified (3 or more years ago) to facilitate SFP 10-14 with families in their local communities. To maintain current certification, facilitators should recertify to receive the most current program updates, updated research of SFP 10-14, leadership development with implementation teams, and review of current research- and practice-based strategies for successful family engagement in prevention programming. Recertification is valid for three (3) years. Recertification is six hours via Zoom with an additional two hours of asynchronous work for a total of 8 hours of training. The Cowlitz Tribe Healing of the Canoe hosts this Tribal Wellness and Resilience Gathering in partnership with Molina Healthcare, Department of Health (DOH), and Healthcare Authority (HCA). They are collaborating with other tribes to discuss community wellness and what it means to heal during this season we are in. By attending, you will get the opportunity to hear about what others are and what you can be doing to balance your health - whether it be sound therapy, yoga, making safe choices with gaming and gambling, or building resiliency. Guiding Good Choices New Facilitator Training WSU Extension is offering Virtual New Facilitator Training for Guiding Good Choices. The training is one-week long and attendees MUST be able to attend all days of training. The first four days of the training have a mid-day break and attendees are expected to return promptly for the afternoon sessions. Training (via Zoom) will introduce participants to GGC, provide professional development for how to facilitate GGC, and learn of the development and benefits of the Social Development Strategy--the basis of the evidence-based prevention program for parents of youth in middle childhood. Registration is required. The training is open to the first 16 people who register (link below). A waiting list will be developed if needed based on registration numbers. Once registered, a Zoom link will be sent approximately 3 days prior to the start of training. Please review the training dates and times listed below for this training. All dates and times are required for complete certification. URGENT NOTE: Attendees MUST purchase material prior to the training. Two Years In: Reflections on Best Practices to Promote Mental Health and Prevent Substance Misuse Among Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Communities Since COVID-19 Description Asian Americans (AA) and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders (NHPI) are the least likely ethnic groups in the US to seek behavioral health services. While AA and NHPI communities represent a large number of diverse ethnic groups, they share some cultural factors that can impact how they seek behavioral health services and how they respond to strategies in promoting mental health and preventing substance misuse. This Learning Session will explore best practices and cultural responsiveness in addressing mental health and substance misuse among AA and NHPI communities.
Analyze trends in mental health and substance use among AA and NHPI communities since the onset of COVID-19 Audience Community, tribal, jurisdiction, and state-level substance misuse prevention practitioners and allied health partners located in the Pacific Southwest region, including American Samoa, Arizona, California, Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Hawaii, Nevada, Republic of Marshall Islands, and Republic of Palau. A team of faculty and staff from Washington State University with experience in YPAR will facilitate the meetings. We will prioritize discussing topics that are most relevant to the group - so please bring any questions you have about YPAR regardless of what stage of planning you are at! We will use these sessions to problem solve and brainstorm practical strategies for recruitment, program planning, developing youth-adult partnerships, and more. As many people know, the professional identity of peer staff is rooted in their lived experience and deep connection to personal vulnerabilities. What is not often talked about or addressed are the imbalances that many peers face in the workforce. The majority of peers work alongside and are supervised by clinicians and other professionals who may not have the ability to disclose their lived experience, or who do not identify as having lived experience. Often, these imbalances can lead to unclear job descriptions, miscommunication, siloing of services, and replication of the harm many peers have experienced in navigating systems of care. Forefront Suicide Prevention invites you to our workshop on suicide grief. This workshop is for individuals, families or communities who are bereaved by suicide. The workshop is also designed for anyone wanting to learn how to support a loved one or friend who is bereaved by suicide. This workshop will shine light on concepts rarely discussed in our culture:

This workshop brings together two presenters: a longtime grief counselor who shares her wisdom and experience, and a suicide loss survivor who shares her journey of grieving and learning, after her son died by suicide. This training will be in-person and is for SFP 10-14 new facilitators who will be working in a team of three to deliver the evidence-based prevention program to families in their local communities.
