The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) cancels National Drug Take Back Day, tips for public awareness strategies
The DEA has cancelled National Take Back Day events scheduled for April 25 in response to COVID-19. As our communities weather the impacts of COVID-19 we know that times like these can test the protective factors we work so hard to build, every day.
In light of the cancellation, we want to encourage communities to continue to support Take Back Day as an important awareness day.
How can you continue to support opioid prevention?
- Share information about permanent Take Back sites and mail-in return where available.
- Emphasize the importance of locking up medications, especially as more families are homebound.
- The Starts with One campaign has shareable safe storage videos or see the full partner toolkit for graphics to share on social media, in e-newsletters or district intranets
Supporting Take Back Day as an awareness day can help keep prevention top of mind when our communities need it most.
