Community Prevention Project Coordinator

Who we are looking for

The Vancouver Housing Authority is seeking a Community Prevention Project Coordinator to  work with West Van for Youth Coalition. The mission of the Coalition is to build the community in order to promote healthy choices and reduce youth substance use so young people can grow into resilient and healthy adults. The Community Prevention Project Coordinator position will coordinate the work of the Coalition and Drug Free Community (DFC) activities including training, coalition communication, data collection, and information dissemination. Responsible for managing federal, state, and private grants that support community based prevention coalitions. 

The Vancouver Housing Authority (VHA) works closely with local governments and other community partners throughout Clark County to address issues of affordable housing and homelessness and help families break the cycle of poverty. 

What you'll do 

  • Coordinate prevention efforts in cooperation with community organizations, local residents, youth and other stakeholders. 
  • Manage the administrative aspects of the DFC grant, including but not limited to preparing and submitting all ongoing coalition data reports, certifications, and other reports or worksheets required by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
  • Consult with community based coalitions; assess, organize and train coalitions on the strategic prevention framework and implementing prevention strategies. 
  • Track and prepare reports in compliance with grant requirements. 
  • Facilitate strategic work plans to develop community partnerships recruit new coalition members; and partner with school and community-based youth programs and other community resources. 
  • Provide leadership in planning and coordinating community and school education and awareness events, media campaigns, and community/parent outreach. 
  • Works with capacity building committee in securing in-kind donations, and identify and pursue local funding opportunities from individual, service clubs, businesses, and foundations. 
  • Make presentations to service clubs and community groups about community based prevention coalition. 

 

What we offer

  • Starting pay rate is $4,148.00 - $4,464.00 per month based on experience.
  • Full-time, exempt, position working 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

Requirements
  • Bachelor degree in Social Service or Education plus at least two years of community based prevention coalition experience. 
  • Master degree preferred. 
  • Experience working with a strengths based approach. 
  • Prevention Specialist Certification preferred.
