College and Risk Conducive Drinking Environments: Overview and Implications for Prevention

Presenter:

Dana M. Litt, Ph.D., Associate Professor
Department of Health Behavior and Health Systems
School of Public Health
University of North Texas Health Science Center

In this webinar, Dr. Litt will discuss the importance of considering specific risk-conducive environments for drinking that may be particularly salient for college students.  Two studies, focusing on spring break and the first six weeks of college, will provide insights into the ways in which risk-conducive environments may lead to heightened risk for certain college students.  Dr. Litt will close by discussing an ongoing pilot study testing a text-messaging intervention aimed specifically at delaying drinking initiation and/or decreasing drinking escalation among a sample of first-year college students and will demonstrate how pandemic-specific context was integrated into intervention content.
