DUTIES:
Position Overview

The Student Suicide Prevention Program at the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) is a result of legislation passed in 2012–14 (specifically HB 1163, HB 1336 and SB 6431, respectively). The program provides substantial training, resources and support to schools as a means to keep students and their families at risk of suicide, safe and healthy. This is accomplished by OSPI working in conjunction with other state agencies, Educational Service Districts (ESDs), as well as higher education and non-profit organizations who work with students at risk of suicide. It also works to coordinate and combine school and community-based resources as a means to bolster the mental wellbeing of students/families, promoting and ensuring student safety and providing technical assistance and on-line resources for schools on suicide prevention screening and referral.
