Student Assistance Specialist (3 positions)

Puget Sound Educational Service District (PSESD), a premier regional agency that provides innovative pre-K to 12 services and leadership, seeks Student Assistance Specialists to provide prevention and early intervention services to students in the Franklin Pierce and Seattle School Districts.  The Learning Support Services places Student Assistance Specialists in schools to implement comprehensive student assistance programs that address problems associated with mental health, substance use, and violence issues. 

PSESD is one of nine regional educational agencies serving school districts, charter schools and state-approved private schools in Washington. Educational Service Districts, created by the legislature, are an essential regional delivery system for early learning and K-12 services in the state.  PSESD is committed to becoming an Antiracist Multicultural Organization driven by equity in education.

Qualifications

  • BA Degree in Education, Human Services, or related field, AND CDP, CPP, ESA or Mental Health credential (AA/AAS degree in job-related area PLUS CDPT credential may substitute for BA degree)

  • Experience working in a program with emphasis on mental health, violence prevention and/or early intervention, alcohol, tobacco and/or other drug prevention and early intervention (internship experience may be considered as part of job-related experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with school-based student assistance programs or youth-based educational support groups

  • Experience working with community-based coalitions

  • Knowledge of substance abuse prevention and/or mental health principles, methods and/or intervention strategies

  • Knowledge of federal alcohol/drug confidentiality laws

Three positions are available (Perry Keithley Middle School in the Franklin Pierce School District, Cascade Middle School in the Highline School District, and Garfield High School in Seattle School District).   Work Schedule:  school schedule (~8 hours/day; 185 days/year – total ~1,480 hours/year).   Salary: $22.12 to $25.65/hour.  Candidate offers consider experience, qualifications and internal equity.
