National Prevention Week - Kick-off Event
Mon, May 15, 2017
9:00 - 10:00am (Pacific)

This year’s kick-off event will be webcast live and feature live broadcasts from NPW events happening communities around the country, including a performance by the Tradition Not Addiction Youth Group from Concho, Oklahoma and the Vernon Coalition Above the Influence Youth Group from Newton, New Jersey. Tradition Not Addiction is a grassroots Cheyenne and Arapaho tribal youth organization working to prevent underage drinking and prescription drug abuse in their community and a program supported by SAMHSA grantee Southern Plains Tribal Health Board. The Vernon Coalition is a NPW 2017 partner and the Vernon Coalition Above the Influence (ATI) youth group is geared toward youth empowerment. Vernon students in grades 5-12 work together to spread education and awareness throughout their community. Vernon’s youth inspire their peers to take a stand against negative influences, not only alcohol and other drugs but anything negative which can range from bullying, peer pressure to even gossip.
