Media Strategies: CPWI Guidelines and Tools

The following DSHS/DBHR guidelines and resources are intended to assist CPWI coalitions to adapt or create effective prevention messaging in a variety of formats.

These guidelines will help to prevent duplicating efforts and costs, provide effective communication standards, and conserve most of your funding for getting messages out to community members, instead of for production costs.

For more information or assistance, contact your DBHR Prevention System Manager (PSM).

Media Relations

When developing brochures and other publications with DBHR funding, coalitions must follow Washington's guidelines for PlainTalk, as well as guidelines for effective prevention messages, listed above.

For videos and PSAs, your PSM must approve messaging and concepts before your materials are finalized.  Keeping your PSM aware of your plans and progress while creating new materials will avoid costly revisions at the end.

DSHS must be cited as the funding source in news releases, publications, and advertising messages created with or about DSHS funding. The funding source shall be cited as: Washington State Department of Social and Health Services. The DSHS logo may also be used in place of that citation.

Below are links to 3 files with the DSHS logo.  Once they open, you should be able to use the "save as" option on your computer to save them locally.
