This webinar is intended for community-level practitioners. Specifically, this includes National Prevention Network representatives, Single State Agency representatives, PFS project directors, and other PFS staff members.

Description

Cultural competence is an essential component of any prevention effort, yet determining how to apply culturally competent approaches to reduce behavioral health disparities at the state, tribe, and jurisdiction levels can be challenging. This webinar offers a foundation for understanding and addressing disparities through a cultural competency lens.

 

Presenters

Haner Hernandez, PhD., has worked for more than 20 years developing, implementing, and evaluating direct health services and leadership development programs for the Latino community. He also has extensive experience delivering training and technical assistance (T/TA) on to support communities to address health disparities, as well as T/TA to support organizations that deliver addiction and recovery services to the Latino population.

Maria Valenti, Ph.D., is an epidemiology technical assistance provider for the CAPT, providing T/TA on substance abuse prevention surveillance activities and data-driven decision-making, and assisting in the presentation and dissemination of epidemiological findings. Maria has a background in community psychology and program evaluation, with special expertise in sexual minority issues.

Molly Ferguson, MPH, is the national and cohort-based services manager for the CAPT, overseeing the design, development, and delivery of virtual T/TA services delivered to Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) grantees. Molly also serves as a training and technical assistance liaison for the CAPT's Central Resource Team. She brings to her work extensive experience in translational science and health education, specifically in the area of behavioral health, and has delivered multiple trainings on addressing behavioral health disparities.

Certificates of Attendance

Following the webinar, registered participants can request a certificate of attendance for 1.5 hours. We invite participants to submit these certificates to the substance abuse prevention credentialing board in their state, tribe, or jurisdiction. Please note that it is up to the individual credentialing board to determine if these hours are acceptable for professional credentialing or re-certification.
