You are invited to join your colleagues in Oregon and participate in Strength in Community: Creating Healthy Connections, a ‘best practice’ conference for people interested in suicide prevention, intervention, postvention, and advocacy. This event is specifically designed to meet the diverse interests and needs of attendees. The conference and training will provide opportunities to build understanding, share resources and strengthen collaboration through presentations, facilitated discussions and skill building trainings and workshops.

The Oregon Suicide Prevention Conference begins on Monday, March 12th with full-day pre-conference trainings, (s2H-suicide to Hope, QPRT Suicide Risk Assessment and Management Training Pro and Connect: Suicide Postvention Training) and continues with a combination of plenary and break-out sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday.  The event is hosted by Lines for Life and funded through Oregon Health Authority Health Systems Division’s Suicide Intervention programs and the Public Health Division’s Zero Suicide and Garret Lee Smith Act grant from SAMHSA.

This conference “Strength in Community, Creating Healthy Connections” includes promising practice and evidenced-based tools affecting various populations across generations with a focus on youth, Native Americans, LGBTQ, attempt and loss survivors, military and veterans, and healthcare systems. The conference seeks to provide participants with information to use in everyday practical applications and to highlight local successes that are creating, strengthening and advocating for healthier connections in communities throughout Oregon.  The conference features loss survivor and national expert, Sally Spencer-Thomas on Men’s Health and The Art of Sharing Story, and attempt survivor and author, Craig Miller, as he shares his journey to hope and healing.

The conference is designed for an adult audience with basic knowledge of suicide and suicide prevention who are seeking to increase knowledge and build competency. Professionals and community advocates, including physicians, researchers, psychologists, nurses, social workers, behavioral health clinicians, educators, public policy makers, clergy, crisis center staff and volunteers, as well as those who have lost a loved one to suicide or had their own suicidal experience, are encouraged to participate.
